I will hold firm with the saying "never talk about politics or religion". Over the last few weeks here in New Zealand, the major topic unfortunatly has been politics. Our election is happening in four more sleeps. I would usually go down and do the whole voting thing without really thinkg about it. I guess alot of people are like that. This year however after the devastation that has hit Christchurch (where I live) and the lack of jobs for our school leavers, I have been paying more attention than normal. I have sat back and listened to people moan about our government and Prime Minister (whom I didn't vote for) and while I can understand the moaning, I can't understand it coming from people who didn't take the time to vote. I moan about our government, but I voted three years ago and I'm gonna be voting in four days time, in the hope my moaning will be less.
I know the world is going through a recession and everyones economy pretty much sucks, but in the last three years, New Zealands unemployment has risen and thousands have left for Australia or the United Kingdom. Our cost of living has increased but our wages haven't. I'm not really up with world politics and economics, I find it rather boring and depressing to be totally honest, but I personally don't think it's a wise idea to be voting in a government that just want's to sell off our state owned assets and penalize those unfortunate enough to be on a benefit.
I get annoyed when I hear people saying things like "I'm not voting for Labour because their leader isn't charasmatic enough." or the worst yet "I'm voting for National because the Prime Minister is hot". Firstly if they really think that the Prime Minister is hot then New Zealand women have all their taste in their arses and they sit on it. I mean seriously people we don't vote on personality or looks, we vote on the policy's.
That's part of my rant over for a little while anyway. But come on New Zealand take five minutes out of your busy day and VOTE. Vote for a fair New Zealand for everyone, vote for more jobs, vote for all the people of New Zealand rich or poor.
